We would like to introduce you to AWSA, the American White Shepherd Association and the Associate Membership Program. AWSA is an organization that is comprised of white Shepherd owners that are located throughout the USA and Canada. We are people who truly love our dogs and are interested in bringing together a group that understands and appreciates the special and unique qualities that are found in the white Shepherd. We all have a common bond of sharing our lives and our homes with these wonderful and very intelligent canines.

Have you ever had someone ask you what breed of dog you own? When you respond, "It's a WHITE German Shepherd" there are usually many other questions that follow. "Is it an albino?" (No, an albino would have red eyes and lack all pigment.) "Are they AKCregistered?" (Yes, they are currently registered with the AKC as German Shepherds.) "Are they rare?" (No, actually they are not rare. There are over 5,000 white German Shepherd Dogs registered with the AKC each year.)

By bringing together the owners of white German Shepherds, AWSA hopes to build a club that can help the survival, exisitance, and promotion of these outstanding dogs. AWSA currently has members working in many areas for these purposes. They include a Breed Recognition Committee, Membership Chair, Database Manager, Historian, Registar, Conformation Chair, Public Education Coordinator, Breed Standard Committee, Performance Events Chair, Obedience Chair, and Health & Genetics Chair. AWSA also recognizes and supports several German Shepherd Dog rescue contacts.

What will an AWSA Associate Membership do for you?

• Put you in touch with other white German Shepherd Dog owners & breeders.
• Provide you with a complete history and background of the white German Shepherd Dog.
• Keep you appraised of white German Shepherd Dog activities in your area, such as conformation shows, obedience matches and trials, Canine Good Citizen tests, Herding Instinct tests, Dog Costume Contests (really!), and much, much more!
• Introduce you to "Whites on the Worldwide Web" via website addresses, email addresses, and some Question & Answer type message boards that are extremely interesting and informative.
• Broaden your knowledge with respect to breed status issues surrounding our whites within the American Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club, the European clubs, and several rare breed associations.
• Provide you with a regularly published newsletter that gives you an opportunity to let everyone know just how special your companion is, whether it be a brag such as "My dog is the best TV Remote Retreiver in the world" to "My dog and I just earned our first Obedience Title."
• Keep you apprised of white Shepherd publications, such as Hoflin's "White German Shepherd Dog Annual."
• Welcome you into a breed club that truly loves the beautiful white German Shepherd Dog.
• Help the survival, existence, and promtion of the white GSD, simply by "being counted"!
